This week, we reflected upon our homework from the week. We read the article "Misconceptions die hard" and discussed with out groups. This article emphasizes that students still have misconceptions, even after direct instruction. This issue is shown clearly in the video "Private Universe" where students maintain misunderstandings about concepts such as the phases of the moon. we signed up for project presentations. My group and I chose to focus on Blackholes. Then we worked on making our galaxies out of items we could find within the classroom. We are using math by finding distance between the planets. We used scale and proportion as well.
Textbook:
🌌 Solar System Highlights 🌍
Planets: 8 in total; inner planets (rocky) and outer planets (gas giants). Use “My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nutella” to remember their order.
Pluto: Reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006 for not clearing its orbit.
Moon: Formed after a collision between early Earth and Theia. Its phases (new, crescent, quarter, gibbous, full) change as it orbits Earth.
Eclipses:
Solar: Moon blocks the Sun (new moon).
Lunar: Earth blocks sunlight from the Moon (full moon).
Seasons: Caused by Earth’s tilt, not distance from the Sun.
