What did I learn this week?
This week, we learned about natural selection. Natural selection is a process by which certain traits become more or less common in a population over time. This is due to a variety of reasons. This week we also checked our plant progress. Ours is not doing so well.
How can I apply this to what I already knew?Throughout the semester we had already talked about how specific genes and and genetics can affect traits. This relates to how specific traits and characteristics can change based on mutations and competition. This is how evolution occurs.
How can I apply this in my future career?
Genes and genetics are important to teach young kids. They are so curious about why they look the way they do or why we all look different, so being able to teach kids about dominant and recessive genes and how they work will be a concept that we will learn. I can do this in a similar way we did in lab.
